Charter Brings Customers NBC Universal’s Coverage of 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games February 12 – 28

Customers Gain Access to Unprecedented Coverage

St. Louis, MO –  Charter Communications, in agreement with NBC Universal, today announced a multiplatform content offering for NBC Universal’s 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games to commence with the Opening Ceremony on Friday, Feb. 12.

Customers will stay connected to the Vancouver Olympic Winter Games wherever they go, and can expect extensive coverage on the networks of NBC Universal, including NBC, USA Network, MSNBC, CNBC, Universal HD and NBCOlympics.com. Designed to deliver customers more than 835 hours of unprecedented Winter Olympic programming, representing the most total hours ever for a Winter Olympics, and the most live hours ever for a Winter Games, Charter will showcase advanced technology, as well as cable’s broad digital offerings and deep and rich content across multiple digital platforms, including HD, VOD and high-speed Internet. The world’s premier winter event will be the first Winter Olympics available entirely in high definition.

The excitement and drama of this year’s Winter Olympic Games are eagerly anticipated by millions of fans, but a family in St. Louis – home of Charter’s corporate offices and one of the company’s largest markets – has a passionate and personal interest in one of the main events. The Stastny family is a hockey dynasty, built by hockey legend and Blues Hockey Hall of Fame Center iceman Peter Stastny and inherited by his sons. Stastny, and his brothers Anton and Marian, attracted international hockey attention during the Lake Placid Olympic Games in 1980 as members of the Czechoslovakia Hockey team when they defected from the Communist régime to NHL’s Quebec Nordiques.  Peter returned to his homeland as a captain to lead his newly founded country, Slovakia, in the 1994 Winter Olympic Games in Lillehammer, Norway. The elder Stastny was then traded to the St. Louis Blues in 1994, where the family has made their home since.

Yan, 27, is a Notre Dame graduate and a center for the St. Louis Blues, and can recall watching close-up shots of his father on TV carrying the Slovakian flag for his country. Paul, 24, plays center for the Colorado Avalanche. A University of Denver graduate, he was recently named to the 2010 Team USA hockey team, to begin the family’s second generation participation in these elite competitions.

The Stastnys rely on Charter services to keep up with hockey and to stay in touch with family. Yan follows his brother Paul’s hockey games using Charter’s video and high-speed Internet services. “With all of today’s amazing technology, I never miss a thing,” he said. “I’m extremely proud of my brother, and I plan to be in Vancouver to support him as much as my schedule will allow. But it’s good to know that when I can’t be there, I can still follow his games on TV and online.”

The elder Stastny goes online every morning to analyze game sheets, and he regularly watches hockey – especially his sons’ games – on Charter’s sports tier. “We are a family rich with hockey tradition, and Charter helps us keep that spirit alive,” he said. “Being both a very proud parent and a former player makes it a lot harder in many ways. You can see things as a spectator that you can’t see as a player on the ice, and that can be nerve-racking.”

In addition, Charter’s advanced Internet and telephone services enable the Stastnys to stay in touch with family and friends across the U.S. and internationally.

Following are multiplatform offerings that will allow Charter customers to watch and be a part of the Vancouver Winter Games, including HD, VOD and high-speed Internet services.
