Charter Telephone(TM) Recognized by Electronic Security Leader ADT As Service That Can Support Monitoring of Its Security Systems
ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2006--Charter Communications, Inc. (Nasdaq: CHTR) has announced that Charter Telephone(TM) service has been recognized by ADT Security Services, a unit of Tyco Fire & Security, as a primary method of alarm transmission to ADT's 24-hour customer monitoring centers.
Charter Telephone, carried on Charter's privately managed network, has tripled its customer base in the past year and today, passes more than 6 million homes. "Our phone customers count on us to deliver a reliable connection every day, for every type of residence," said Charter Telephone Senior Vice President and General Manager, Ted Schremp. "ADT's recognition further validates our collective commitment to customer safety."
In order to obtain ADT's recognition, Charter Telephone and other cable telephone service providers were required to meet a number of criteria outlined by ADT. These characteristics include maintaining a physical facilities network with major and minor disaster recovery plans in place, including specific network power restoration procedures, providing professional installation that preserves primary line seizure for alarm signal transmission, and ensuring real-time transmission of voice signals, while carrying alarm formats unchanged.
"Charter Telephone has grown incredibly fast, due primarily to the great value and the fact that our service is very customer-friendly," said Mr. Schremp. "We are pleased to be working with ADT Security Services to deliver consumers the reliability of Charter Telephone service combined with the security of ADT's monitored alarm systems."
Customers new to Charter Telephone can sign up for $29.99 per month for a minimum of three months. Charter Telephone offers customers an unlimited local and long distance plan covering calls within the US, Canada and Puerto Rico, and includes 10 of the most popular calling features plus voicemail. Charter Telephone also provides customers 911 emergency service and directory listings.
